A new locally-produced app is set to change the television industry. This thanks to Kimberleigh Stark, executive producer of The Money Trail Television SA (TMTVSA). This online television channel was launched in January this year and has so far attracted 1.5 million users who watch entertainment news and segments along with life style shows.
“TMTVSA is an all access TV, and we just focus on positive news and events with a little bit of a twist. All our shows are presented and hosted by South Africans who the public already knows,” Stark said. She added that she initially approached other broadcasters with her idea and was turned down time and again due to the limitations posed to advertisers. Eventually she decided to go it alone with her business partner.
Stark said that TMTVSA is an app that can be downloaded onto phones and tablets adding that it was TV on the go. “You could be sitting in a taxi or perhaps there’s load shedding, or while waiting for an appointment and watch TMTVSA,” Stark said.
She pointed out that the App was a free download, with no subscription She added that they were keeping the shows short as not to cost their users too much in data. Stark was an actress before opening up her own management stable, Stark Raving Management in Brixton, managing actors like Patrick Shai. Stark said that this was a proudly South African initiative and that she was excited to see TMTVSA grow bigger and become a contender in the broadcasting world.
“At the moment, we have about 17 people who are working for TMTVSA and we want to take our South African viewers to the world,” she said.
Stark, who was born in the USA, said that she loved all things South African and that she and her team were overwhelmed by the support that TMTVSA has received so far. “Another advantage of TMTVSA is that you can watch it anywhere in the world and because it is a video podcast, viewers will never miss a show as it will be archived on the site,” she added.
