GALLERY: Movie treat for residents

CRESTA – Cum Books Cresta Shopping Centre treated residents to a movie night on 22 July.

Cum Books in Cresta Shopping Centre invited members of the community to a screening of the movie, God’s not dead on 22 July.

According to Cum Books manager Marc Coetzee, they wanted to give back to the community by treating them to a free movie and popcorn.

“This is just an ideal winter warmer and a fantastic movie for the whole family to live out as Christians,” said Coetzee.

According to Jonathan Moletsane, the movie was an eye opener.

“I had a lot of questions regarding Christianity and also my faith, but I am glad I came to watch the movie – it was really interesting. The other thing is that is doesn’t insult other religions, it caters for everyone,” Moletsane said. However, Michelle Thomson had a different view of the movie.

“The movie is misleading, not everyone who doesn’t believe in God is bad,but it was good seeing a young person defending his faith,” she said.

The movie tells a story of a young man Josh Wheaton (Shane Harper) who would do anything to defend his faith.

On the first day of Philosophy class, Professor Radisson (Kevin Sorbo) educated his class on why famous philosophers such as Richard Dawkins, Albert Camus and Michael Foucault don’t believe in God, and on the spot he asked his students to write down that ‘God is dead’ on a piece of paper, sign it and submit it, if not then suffer failing.

With much confidence, Josh immediately refused which resulted in a furious reaction from his professor. The professor who can be viewed as an advocate for unbelievers then assigned Josh to an unnerving task that demanded him to prove the existence of God in front of the class. However, should he fail to prove God’s existence, then he would fail the section and risk losing 30 per cent of his final grade. With no one in his corner, Josh took up the challenge to convince the class that God is not dead!

Have you watched the movie? What are your thoughts?
