It is that time of the year when the Irish and their friends – and all who love the dark beverage from Dublin – lift glasses to celebrate St Patrick’s Day and everybody becomes Irish.

Originally proclaimed to celebrate the arrival of Christianity in Ireland, it now also serves to celebrate Irish culture and tradition around the world. The alcohol and food festivities is a result of restrictions being lifted during the Lenten season of the Christian church.

The day will be celebrated on Saturday, 14 March as 17 March falls on a weekday. All restrictions on drinking Guinness will also be lifted on this day at the Irish Club in Linden. According to Mick Desmond, chairman of the club, copious amounts of the dark fluid as well as other beverages will be available.

As usual, food will be in abundance as well as good music to dance the night away.

Address: Irish Club, corner Salerno Road and 5th Avenue.
