Clay Festival 2015

NORTH RIDING – Calling all clay enthusiasts to the Clay Festival.

A premier Clay Festival will be staged at the Berario Recreation Centre, corner Dolores Avenue and King Street on 7 and 8 March.

The Gauteng Region of Ceramics Southern Africa [www.ceramicssa.org] based in North Riding is hosting the event.

Different suppliers will be represented in the Trade Hall with the latest information on clays, glazes, kilns, wheels, books and demonstrations of products.

Different demonstrations will be held, including throwing on the wheel, handwork/burnishing and decorating techniques by member teaching studios.

In addition there will be an ongoing sculpture building exercise.

All artists participating in the trade hall will have finished work for sale.

A super raffle of many donated prizes from well-known artists will add to the fun.

The programme of workshops line-up: Ralph Johnson (Western Cape): Creative expression with movement;

Madoda Fani (Gauteng): Decorative carving;

Carol Cauldwell Hamman (Gauteng): Exploring ceramic sculpture;

Evette Kruger (Gauteng); Raku with a twist;

John Shirley (Gauteng): Decorating the fired surface;

Michelle Legg & Nic Sithole (Gauteng); Traditional coiling techniques;

Lydia Holmes (Eastern Cape); Figurative ceramics sculpture;

Chris Patton (Gauteng); Make and use your own tools and brushes;

Eugene Hön (Gauteng); Creative development masterclass.

The following one-hour lunchtime talks for members only will be presented:

7 March: Internship with The Studio Potter by Ronnie Watt (Gauteng) and

8 March: 2014 Taiwan Ceramic Biennale Review by Eugene Hön (Gauteng).

A delicious array of homemade goodies, salads, soups and refreshments will be available which can be enjoyed in a lovely café atmosphere near the demonstrations in the Trade Hall.
