CrossFit is a dish served best in pairs or groups – David Ayres

STRIJDOM PARK – The Iron Gate CrossFit Head coach David Ayres says CrossFit is one of the best forms of staying fit.

Have you always thought of CrossFit as being hectic and hardcore?

The Iron Gate CrossFit Head coach David Ayres says CrossFit is a sport that caters for different age groups and sizes.

“When you come to the Box you will work hard. Sometimes it will not be easy. But you are welcome to scale the movements and loads to your level of experience,” he said.

The workouts are also for exercise buffs who would like to develop their core strength.

“CrossFit is not all about weight lifting – it is for everyone who wants to reach a certain goal while having fun,” said Ayres.

CrossFit is a dish best served in pairs or in groups, Ayres boasted during his Saturday morning workout.

“CrossFit is an all-round sports, it helps you to be anything you want to be,” added Ayres.

Calvin Els, who is also a coach, says individuals should try it once and see how it goes.

“Every workout, every day is different – We can scale out the workout to people’s abilities,” said Els.

“CrossFit teaches us to program certain things on different levels, you can be a swimmer or gymnastic,” said Els.

Veronica Chittenden (61), who is also a member of Iron Gate CrossFit, says at her age, working out has never been this much fun.

”I am in love with my workouts, I enjoy every minute of it,” she said, adding that she dedicates six days in a week to training.

”CrossFit teaches you mobility, there is more to it than lifting weights, she said.

Chittenden also added that she finds CrossFit exhilarating because gradually she builds up strength.
