Video: Blairgowrie’s maestro strives to develop himself

BLAIRGOWIE – Carel Henn thinks of producing a gospel music CD on cello.

Carel Henn (42) is focused on developing his musical ability. The Blairgowrie resident conducted the Rand Symphony Ochestra Spring Concert recently, see the link for the video https://youtu.be/lEWbTRnprZs. He is a cellist and a founding member of the Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra. He often performs with different orchestras, and in a quartet that plays at concerts and weddings. He also records classical music for radio and TV.

He teaches cello, and was deputy conductor for Pieter Toerin’s production The Phantom of the Opera, two years ago. “I am happy where I am at but I want to keep developing, maybe make a gospel music CD on cello,” Henn said. Conducting a few concerts, and producing two CDs: Flying Solo and Appassionato, certainly help him in his pursuit of musical growth.

“Classical music came to me from a young age,” Henn said. “I took lessons, grew a love for it and chose to develop it.” Chairperson of the Rand Symphony Orchestra Isabel Bradley said that the orchestra likes Henn “enormously”, and the orchestra plans to work with him more in the future.
