MALANSHOF – First aiders treat injuries at the Randburg Sports Complex.

If you were to suffer an injury while playing a sports match at the Randburg Sports Complex, Malanshof, you need not fear.

By law, qualified first-aiders must always be present for official sports matches, in order attend to injuries should they occur.

Furthermore, the first-aiders at the Randburg Sports Complex have a passion for their job, and they go beyond the call of duty to help the injured.

They are highly praised by local sports coaches.

Nathanael Block and Percy Pheto are two such people.

They work for Emergency Care, an emergency medical services company.

Block is a basic life support first-aider and Pheto is a basic life assistant.

As a pair, they oversee many sports matches at the complex.

Block says that it is important to have medical staff at sports matches because severe injuries can occur.

Even injuries, that if not attended to within five minutes, can cause brain damage.

“I love my job,” he says. “My passion is to do medical stuff and help people. I want to be a surgeon one day.”

Pheto says that he has a passion to help people who are in distress.

“The medics here do a very good job for us,” says Diggers Junior Rugby chairperson Sibonginkosi Moyo.

“They are of high calibre. They can handle all injuries you could encounter.”

Emergency Care spokesperson Donovan Roestorff says, “At Emergency Care we are passionate about the players’ well-being and put the players’ welfare above all.”
