Talented teenager’s triumphs in New York

FONTAINEBLEAU – Celia Britz does Fontainebleau proud at Talent America.

FONTAINEBLEAU – Celia Britz (14) returned triumphantly after participating in the 41st annual Talent America contest in New York, United States of America, between 11 and 13 July.

Celia participated in a team of 32 South African contestants.

The competition showcased the best American and South African singing, dancing, acting, modelling, performing and instrumental talent.

The Fontainebleau resident participated in dancing, acting, modelling and instruments.

Not only did she achieve first place for each of these, but she also won every one of her age categories.

She was awarded the Tri Star award and Triple Threat award.

This exceptional accomplishment is a result of dedicated hard work and a team effort with her coaches – Hannes Coetzee, drama teacher for Hoërskool Randburg, and Dawn Meyer, her dance coach.

“I was most excited to meet with talent scouts, production directors, booking agents and film makers in our call-back interviews. This is where I realised the enormous opportunities available for South African teenagers who are willing to work hard at realising their dreams,” Celia said.

She also attended dance workshops at Broadway Dance Centre and a workshop with the main cast members of Disney Newsies, a Broadway production.

Visiting the New York Film Academy was another highlight for Britz.

Celia was one of only four contestants who were invited to participate at the Gala Awards with a comic South African rendition of the evergreen story of Cinderella.

“The judges, guests and fellow contestants really enjoyed our South African humour,” Celia added.

She said that more hard work will hopefully provide more opportunities for international travels and competing on a worldwide platform.
