Disney show magic in Randburg

NORTHGATE – Residents witness magic as Disney skates on ice.

Magic. Wonder. Heroes. Villains. Disney. Spectacular ice skating.

These were the themes of Disney on Ice celebrates 100 years of Magic at the Coca-Cola Dome, Northgate, during the show’s opening performance on 11 July.

A jam-packed crowd of excited, shrieking Disney-movie enthusiasts (and their young children) attended from as far as the Free State or Mpumalanga.

They pointed and waved with glee as their favourite Disney characters performed their stories by skating on an ice rink to Disney’s unforgettable soundtracks.

Produced by Feld Entertainment, this production features about 60 Disney characters from The Lion king, Pinocchio, Aladdin, Toy Story, The Incredibles, Beauty and the Beast, Finding Nemo and other princesses and their princes.

South African skater Nicole Rudolph is performing in the production.

“I want the audience to feel what I feel,” she said.

“I want to show nothing less than pure enjoyment and I hope they feel the true beauty and passion of the sport.”

The skating was choreographed by Emmy Award-winner Sarah Kawahara.

The show will be performed at the Coca-Cola Dome until 20 July, and then at Grand West Arena, Cape Town, from 23 to 27 July.
