Spirit of the Dance now on stage at the Mandela at Joburg Theatre

JOBURG - Phenomenal Irish dance show 'Spirit of the Dance' returned for its sixth season on the stage of The Mandela at Joburg Theatre.

Joburg Theatre’s most popular dance production Spirit of the Dance has returned to the big stage, introducing the best in Irish tap.

According to Claire Pacariz strategic relations manager at the Joburg Theatre, the dance production is one of the most successful shows to come out of Ireland, and has been seen by more than 20 million people around the world.

“First visiting Joburg Theatre in February 2002, the record-breaking dance show returned by public demand for a second season the same year, then again in 2003, 2005 and 2009. Spirit of the Dance has given more performances – over 150 to date – than any other show in the history of this theatre,” said Pacariz.

Spirit of the Dance company manager Alexandra Livesey, said she would encourage people of all ages to come watch it because it is like no other Irish tap dancing show. “We introduce different types of dance styles… we use props on stage and create foot-stomping entertainment… passionate Latino rhythms of tango, flamenco and sizzling salsa, and other genres of dance and music,” explained Livesey.

The new 2014 Production of Spirit of the Dance features additional styles of choreography and the beautiful voices of singing stars The Irish Angels.

The production is at The Mandela at Joburg Theatre from 3 June to 15 June. Tickets are on sale online and are also sold at Soweto-based Pick n Pay stores.
