The coffin that was abandoned on a pavement in Blairgowrie was claimed the next day.
The coffin was found on Bantam Street just before midnight on 14 January and taken to Linden Police Station.
Linden SAPS spokesperson Carol Mulamu said that during the afternoon on 15 January two men claimed the coffin.
The men said that their neighbours on Bantam Street had moved house and left the coffin behind.
The men said that they wanted to use the coffin as a TV stand.
“We urge community members not to put valuables at the pavements or outside their premises that are no use to them but to dispose them at the dumping area or recycling facilities, as it can attract criminals in the neighbourhood.” Mulamu said.
