Activist calls for Zuma’s impeachment

JOBURG- President Jacob Zuma should be prosecuted for the multimillion rand development on his private residence, activist Zackie Achmat said.

This follows the leaking of two provisional reports compiled by the public protector, which revealed that Zuma personally benefited from the security upgrades at his Nkandla home.

According to Public Protector Thulisile Madonsela’s report, the president should account for violating the executive ethics code for failing to protect state resources and misleading parliament.

Achmat has signed an online petition calling for the impeachment of the president and the “prosecution of everyone else involved in criminal action in the Nkandla corruption scandal”.

According to the petition, Madonsela’s report on Nkandla “proves that President Zuma lied to parliament and personally benefited from over R200 million of public money [without proper tender procedures].”

The group, calling themselves the Committee for the Impeachment of the President, called for a public demonstration outside parliament if the prosecuting authorities and parliament fail to take action against Zuma.

Achmat took to Twitter saying, “Impeach the gangster of #Nkandla – 12 100 people have signed petition & support mass protest on #13February.”
