Embrace the great outdoors

Spring is just around the corner and Joburgers jumped at the opportunity to enjoy the warmer weather at one of the many parks in the area last weekend.

We are truly blessed to have so many greenbelts weaving their way through our suburbs. We don’t have to drive an hour out of the city to savour and appreciate the outdoors. Whether it’s the Emmarentia or Walter Sisulu botanical gardens, Delta Park or any of the many smaller parks peppered across Johannesburg we’re spoilt for choice of where to go with friends and family.

For the energetic you can take the dogs for a walk or jog, ride mountain bikes through the park, throw a ball or Frisbee or play a game of rounders or catch with the children.

Those more interested in a lazy afternoon can pack a picnic. Take a book along then you can relax in the shade and read a couple chapters. Take a leisurely stroll through the park or just rest quietly as you soak up the outdoors and relax.

It’s amazing how rejuvenating a couple hours in the fresh air and sunlight can be to one’s soul. Which, by this time of year, I am sure is starting to weigh heavy on most. So resist the urge to veg on the couch with the remote control. It might seem like an effort packing a picnic basket but I guarantee it’ll be worth it.
