Old Parks clinch an important victory over Ruimsig FC

Old Parks U15 fought hard to claim an important victory against Ruimsig FC, keeping their hopes of finishing second place in the log alive.

Micaiah Davids’ long-range strike won Old Parks all three points at home in a nail-biting contest against Ruimsig Football Club U15.

After a gruelling first half, with endless attacks from both side, Micaiah’s second half snap shot separated Old Parks from Ruimsig in the Rand Central Local Football Association division 1 fixture.

The visitors threw everything they had at Old Parks but were not clinical in front of goals. Mulenga Kalenga, home side forward, had a big opportunity to put the hosts in the lead. He went one on one with the goalkeeper, Moleleki Lekakuba, who bravely put his body on the line and made a big save.

The home side started to gain control of the game with Tumelo Carries and Giacomo Barberis pulling the strings in the middle of the park. They relied on speed and the skills of Thapelo Maseko who was the thorn on the visitor’s defence.

Old Parks continued to press high and pumping long balls to frustrate Ruimsig. Before the stunning goal, Micaiah had another glorious opportunity but his shot went over the bar. The Old Parks left back received a perfect pass in the Ruimsig box but failed to connect well and his shot went inches wide.

The home team remained disciplined at the back and did not give the visitors any clear-cut chances. With the 1–0 win they still have hopes of remaining second on the log table.

Old Parks coach Peter Obiora explained that they prepared for the game well and he is proud of his boys for showing character.

“We prepared today knowing exactly what we are chasing on the log. We were hoping to get more goals, but my boys are well prepared mentally, technically, and physically for the championship next season.”

He added that they will work on converting the chances they create going to the next game.

Ruimsig dominated possession but struggled to break the host’s defence. Coach Tumi Mothibi explained that they played better football, but they need to work on taking their chances.

“A very good game but conceding a goal put us under pressure and gave them confidence to attack us more. The boys were very discipline and kept the ball very well. We wanted the results but unfortunately we were not clinical.”
