Golden Lions Youth Rugby Union is calling on local business to step up as IPT sponsors

The Golden Lions Youth Rugby Union is on the hunt for sponsors to support their upcoming Inter-Provincial Tournament (IPT) in September. The Union, comprised of 20 youth clubs across Gauteng, offers businesses an exciting opportunity to partner with them through financial or product sponsorships. These contributions will benefit the young athletes, providing much-needed kit items and tour support.

For many of the boys and girls selected for the Golden Lions IPT teams, this tournament is a highlight of their rugby journey, often referred to as their ‘World Cup’. It’s a chance for them to wear the prestigious provincial jersey, an opportunity some might never experience again. The Golden Lions will send five boys’ teams (U13 to U18) and two girls’ teams (U16 and U18) to the tournament, hosted by the Sharks in KwaZulu-Natal from September 23 to 28. This year’s delegation includes 220 players, coaches, and management staff.

The Golden Lions Youth Rugby Union draws talent from various regions within Gauteng, with clubs spread across the north, south, east, west, and central areas. These clubs include:

North: Bryanston Honey Badgers, Diggers Junior Rugby Club, Northern Cats, and Warriors.

South: Alberton Junior Rugby Club, Ennerdale Junior Rugby Club, Union Rugby Club, and Eden Park.

East: Germiston Simmers Rugby Club and Wasps Rugby Club.

West: Kagiso Rugby Club, Khosa Rugby Club, Krugersdorp Junior Rugby Club, Randfontein Rugby Club, Roodepoort Rugby Club, and Western Pride.

Central: Alexandra Wolves, Pirates Rugby Club, Wanderers Rugby Club, and African Badgers.

These teams have been hard at work, preparing for the trials that will determine who represents the Golden Lions at the IPT tournament.

Looking beyond the 2024 IPT, the Golden Lions Youth Rugby Union will be hosting the 2025 tournament and are seeking long-term partnerships. Sponsors for 2025 will gain exposure not only during the IPT but also at various other events, including the 7s tournament, rugby skills camps, and IPT trials, ensuring year-round visibility for their brand.

Last year’s sponsors benefited from significant exposure, including live streaming on SA Hall of Fame TV (SEI Sports TV) and extensive social media coverage. The tournament reached over 115 000 people through organic social media engagement. This is an incredible opportunity for businesses to, not only support youth rugby development but also gain wide-reaching exposure across multiple platforms and events.
