Run/Walk for Life celebrates achievements

Residents run and walk thousands of kilometers for charity.

Run/Walk for Life’s Randburg PM branch has had a lot to celebrate recently.

Besides marking the group’s 40th birthday, individuals have completed some remarkable challenges in the past two months.

The group’s manager, Jenny Harrington-Johnson walked 150km over seven days and 300km in total in September for Rainbows and Smiles, a charity for children with cancer.

Elsie Pearson and John Watson achieved 21 000km and 20 000km lifetime distances, respectively, and Diana Barrett achieved
6 000km.

Desire Sobramy completes her first 10km.

Watson and Barrett were also joined by Jacky Cuffley and Elsie Pearson in walking 200km for Run Against Dementia in September.

The group, as a whole, had a club walk for Rainbows and Smiles, with members encouraged to walk any distance between 5km and 21km.

Ayesha Shaik completes her first 10km.

Harrington-Johnson’s challenge to members in November is to walk a distance they have not completed before, whether 10km, 15km or 21km.

Based at Randburg Sports Complex, the group meets to walk in the afternoons.
