Old Parks’ title dream hangs by a thread

Old Parks hope that Robertsham Callies defeat, or hold Sao Paulo to a draw, in their last match for them to win the RCLFA Division One title.

The race for the Rand Central Local Football Association (RCLFA) Ladies Division One Championship is still alive as Robertsham Callies held the log leaders, Old Parks Ladies, to a goalless draw at home.

Old Parks will be waiting with bated breath after failing to win all three points in their last league match. They currently lead the table with 34 points, and the league is up for grabs for Sau Paulo FC.

Sau Paulo remains third in the standings with 29 points and two games remaining. Should they win their next games, they will be champions with 35 points.

In the match, the home side created goal-scoring chances but failed to capitalise. They pushed the visitors back but were not as clinical in the front line.

Kelly Allamby was looking lively for the home team using her skills and speed to catch the opponent’s defence. Her skills energised fans towards the end of the first as she dribbled passed almost all the defenders leaving them on the floor, but her shot was thwarted.

Early in the second half the home side made changes looking to straighten their attack. The visitors gained momentum and pushed back but they could not get passed Old Parks’ solid last line.

Old Parks’ top goal scorer this season Taylor Fritz came from the bench to add more speed and power up front but could not help her side secure the much-needed points.

Explaining why she did not start Old Parks’ coach Colin Fritz explained that she had just come back from a bad injury and he was hoping that she could swing the game for them.

He added that they knew that they were going to come at them, and they will take a point as it is not a loss.

“We are still on top of the log and funny enough we are hoping Robertsham beats Sao Paul in the last game. We will be on our hands and knees to see what happens in the coming weeks.”
