The annual fundraiser for Tom Sundawo will include netball this year

Netball is being introduced for people who cannot, or do not want to, play soccer at the fundraiser.

Netball will be included for the first time at this year’s fundraiser for Tom Sundawo at Fast Sports Fusion in Bordeaux.

Speaking from his wheelchair at Ann Harding Cheshire Home, Sundawo was happy to reveal the date for the annual event has been set for May 1, as he had been aiming to host it on a public holiday.

Sundawo has been confined to a wheelchair since 2007, when he was shot in the head point-blank during an armed robbery.

This was at a restaurant he was managing in Auckland Park.

The annual soccer fundraisers held for him since 2013 – albeit with a break in 2020 and 2021 – helps to pay for his accommodation, medication and care at the home in Northwold.

Sundawo works as a quality controller to earn money but must still rely on help from the community.

“We are welcoming players and teams to sign up for soccer and netball,” he said.

“We are introducing netball for people who cannot, or do not want to, play soccer. Netball is a lot of fun and anyone can play it.”

The event kicks off at 09:00.
