Randburg Harriers hosts successful Easter 100 series

More runners enter the Easter 100 than expected, making the weekend running event a success.

More runners than expected turned up for the annual Easter 100, making the event a great success.

Though running 100km over three days was a tall order, about 200 community members arrived at Randburg Harriers Running Club with smiles on their faces each day from April 7 to 9.

Some even dressed up in bunny ears and tutus, and families came through for the Easter egg hunt and bring and braai on the final day.

“We received great feedback from runners for the support on the road, great organisation and refreshments at the finish,” said the club’s public relations officer, Mbali Mzimela.

“That they could grab a beer after the tough runs was a cherry on top.”

She added that there were more manual entries for the event than there were online, and so the total number or runners exceeded expectations.

“Runners gave up rest and Comrades Marathon training to assist with water tables and daily entries.”

Mzimela thanked everyone who made the 39th edition of the run a success.

The Easter 100 has come to be known as the ‘poor man’s Two Oceans’, as it provides a cheaper alternative for those wishing to run ultra-marathon distance, without having to travel to the Western Cape for the major event, though this will be a week before that one.

Next up, Randburg Harriers will host the annual Vitality Run on July 30.
