Neon Night brightens up Boskruin

Hundreds from the community turn up to support church's annual night run.

Colourful clothes and bright smiles lit up Boskruin when The Barn Christian Fellowship hosted its annual Neon Night on October 28.

Hundreds turned up for the family event and there were a few four-legged friends involved as well.

Balloons, tutus, hoops of flowers, butterfly masks, wigs and of course neon hats, bangles and clothes were the order of the day.

The event is mostly aimed at the young and organised by the church’s youth group so the large jumping castle was always busy.

But when it was time to get the event started, the jumping castle was deflated to make room for the crowd to sing some songs outside the church.

Afterwards, everybody ran 500m laps around the church and two side streets (carefully taped off to ensure the safety of all involved as well as motorists).

Upon each lap completion, runners would receive sweets from volunteers. Needless to say, this ensured the youngsters had near-unlimited energy all night.

“I thought the event was awesome and everyone had fun. There were no injuries or major incidents and there was no rain,” said event organiser Denver Topley.

“This time of the year there is Halloween and a lot of what happens appears to be fine but behind the scenes, there are actually dark and occult things going on. We do Neon Night every year to show children what the church has to offer rather than the world. We show them light instead of darkness.”
