Randburg Cricket Club dominates pool at Black Widow T20 Tournament

Randburg wins four of the five group mages to get back to winning ways in annual tournament.

Randburg Cricket Club is already back to winning ways at this year’s Black Widow Lions Cricket T20 Tournament, winning four of the five group-stage matches to qualify for the playoffs.

Club captain Harry Lediga said last year the club had performed below par by its standards and did not even progress from the group stages.

“We made it to the semi-finals in the previous two years and this year we are looking to make it to the finals as we believe we have what it takes and have consistently made the last four of the competition,” he said.

Charlie Dowling on the attack. He has shone for Randburg more with the ball than the bat in the Black Widow T20 Tournament.

A senior member of the side, Philasande Sixaba said his teammates showed good form against Old Parktonians, Wanderers and Soweto Pioneers with them only losing to Delfos Cricket Club.

“Two out of the three wins have been bonus point victories that have seen the team sitting on the cusp of a playoff place,” he added.

“They’ve been notable performances from batters Bright Njanji whose unbeaten 93 runs against Old Parktonians has been the highest score for the team so far. There have been contributions from Mojeed Adiamo and Austin Bruggen throughout the campaign.”

With the ball, Randburg has been exceptional with them bowling out three of their four opponents – no easy feat in 20 overs.

Special mention went to Jimmy Nyangoni, captain Udo Maartens, Cameron Gerritz and Charlie Dowling.
