RAC sends 120 runners to Comrades

Three of the club's runners completed their 20th Comrades Marathons.

Rand Athletic Club (RAC) can be proud of all its 120 runners who entered the 95th Comrades Marathon.

While their times were excellent, as they always are, the runners maintained good spirits and encouraged others as they went along the 90km-route in KwaZulu-Natal.

Certain milestones have to be celebrated, of course, and this was especially for three runners who completed their 20th runs – Elias Bokabo (08:35), Victor Mngomezulu (10:30) and Trust Langa (10:50).

“The journey to Comrades was made possible by club fundraising, support from family and friends as well as generous donations from RAC members and their companies,” said club chairperson Dick Welch.

The ‘RAC Rasta’ Simbonile Nongco runs his ninth Comrades Marathon.

“Our motto is to ‘never leave anyone at home’, this year was close… The Comrades is unique in this way, it is an achievement almost out of reach, yet you can make it, but… only by your own endeavour.”

He said conquering ‘Jannie Elke man’s Everest’ does wonders for personal esteem. Comrades runners can do anything.
Old Parktonian Sports Club manager Lizette Driescher said RAC was always one of the most represented running clubs in the Comrades.

In fact, the club sent a whole bus full of runners down on the weekend

“The RAC family provides support to some runners that could otherwise not afford to do the race by assisting with transport, accommodation and entries,” she said.
