Linden boxers gear up for title fights

Alan Toweel Boxing Gym's fighters prepare for three title fights in September.

September is a big month for the Alan Toweel Boxing Gym as three boxers from the Linden gym will be having title fights.

Firstly, on September 17 Tshifhiwa ‘Atomic Spider’ Munyai will defend his South African lightweight title against Lusanda Komanisi, the mandatory number one challenger.

This fight is the most-anticipated fight over the past few years in this division.

It will be staged under the Golden Gloves banner at Emperors Palace live on SuperSport.

“This will be Tshifhiwa’s fourth South African title defence,” explained coach Alan Toweel.

On September 22, the Linden gym’s Bangile Nyangani will defend his SA mini flyweight title against Gaveni Nkwenteni.

This will be Bangile’s second SA title defence and pressure is on him to win again and stay on top.

“Bangile is currently rated number seven in the World Boxing Association, ninth in the International Boxing Federation, 13th in the World Boxing Organisation and 15th in the World Boxing Council world boxing ratings,” Toweel added.

“A win for him will elevate him further up the world rankings.”

A few days later, Jeff ‘911’ Magagane will challenge for the SA featherweight title against unbeaten champion Asanda Gingqi.

This fight will be in Auckland Park at the SABC studios and is expected to be another cracker.

“Three SA title fights in a month is a huge task by any means,” Toweel added, though he is confident in his fighters.
