Randburg Cricket Club invites new players to join

The club competes in the Premier A League, which is the top league for cricket in Joburg.

Cricket is currently between seasons but with training about to start again, now is the best time to join a local club.

So says Harry Lediga, captain of Randburg Cricket Club, which plays out of the Randburg Sports Complex in Praegville.

“Our club will start pre-season training in August,” he told Randburg Sun.

“The official season will start in October, and we’ll have warm-up matches between pre-season and then. Now is a good time to join the club because we have just voted in the new committee and some new plans are underway.”

Pre-season training will also help newcomers settle at the club and in their teams before the Lions Cricket Union begins its tournaments and leagues.

“Randburg Cricket Club is like a family. Some of us have been here since we were children. I have been playing here since I was seven. We always welcome new players and make sure new members enjoy themselves.”

He said when new players join they are asked by the club what they would like to get out of their time there.

The club then works with the player to achieve these goals.

Randburg finished fifth in the plate division of the Premier A League last year – the top league for cricket in Joburg.

The club has teams for players from U6/U7 level all the way to senior level.
