14-year-old long jump champion

Athlete does proud by winning gold at national championships.

I Have Talent Sports Academy is celebrating the success of one of its athletes, who has now become the South African U16 girls’ long jump champion.

Amae de Klerk, a 14-year-old who competes in the U14 category, stepped up to the U16 division at the recent Athletics South Africa South African Championships in Potchefstroom.

She jumped 5.45m to win gold.

This despite Amae tearing ligaments in her ankle and being out for a few weeks before.

“She managed to work hard and perform at her best,” said her coach, Leandri Willis.

“We are so grateful for all the opportunities now post Covid-19 and that the athletes can compete again. We will rest a bit before starting with our winter programme.”
