Wrestling siblings win gold

BORDEAUX – Armbars prove too good for the competition at Submission Kids event.

Local siblings, Dominick (13) and Skyla Aoun (11) showed their wrestling prowess by each winning gold medals in a tournament in Edenvale recently.

The young grappling aces entered the Submission Kings, Queens and Kids event, shortly after competing in the Abu Dhabi Youth World Championships.

The Bordeaux pair hoped to end the year strong at the event, so father Fadi Aoun trained them in the mornings before school in the days before the event.

This was on top of their weekly competition training at Gracie Barra Illovo with coaches Storm Conrad, Yron Kairon dos Santos and James Gemmell.

All this during the year-end exams.

Skyla had three competitors in her division, but this did not stop the ‘Auburn Maiden’ from taking home the gold.

Finishing all her fights with powerful armbars, she left her opposition stunned and amazed.

Dominick had a few more competitors to beat before the final. Finishing his first fight in 12 seconds, he won his second match in a minute and a half with a straight armbar finish.

In the final, Dominick had a much longer fight but was able to land another straight armbar to take home the gold once again.
