Pandemic has silver lining for acrobatic dancer

BROMHOF – Eight-year-old Harmony Hattingh impresses the world on stage.

It has been a stellar year for a young, local acrobatic dancer, Harmony Hattingh.

The eight-year-old Bromhof resident received national colours for the second time after she first was awarded them in 2020 upon representing South Africa at the 2020 Talent America competition and won first place.

In May this year she represented her country again with a duet dance routing called Fishes, at the International Stars: Poland–Ireland Star Bridge competition.

Since then she has also competed in the Roodepoort Dance Festival which was her first time performing in front of a live audience on a real stage since early 2020.

Interestingly, her national colours would never have been possible without the Covid-19 pandemic.

Under regular circumstances, the family would have had to fly to the United States or to Poland in order to compete there.

But along came the pandemic and the associated travel restrictions and these competitions were forced to take competitors via video submission.
