Soccer and fitness drills are reaching new heights at SuperSport United Soccer Schools Randburg.

After more than a month of being back at the game, the soccer school at Randburg Sports Complex still measures the temperatures of players and ensures sanitising, social distancing and other safety protocols to keep everyone safe during the pandemic.

Furthermore, match play is not allowed, so players must each stay in their own demarcated areas and follow the drills provided by their coaches.

“Each player has a square and there are no more than eight players per coach,” explained coach David Sham.

“We sanitise the balls and equipment before, during and after sessions and there are 15 minutes between each session for the new players to sign in and for us to sanitise.”

He said youngsters still have fun as they learn important skills that will help them master the great game.

Much of the drills focus on touches of the ball and cardio fitness. It sees the players running between the cones that mark the borders of their squares, sometimes dribbling and sometimes doing soccer tricks between the cones.

Mike Hughes of the Soccer Schools described this as ‘cardio soccer’. “We are working on the fitness aspect while keeping the children in the squares,” he said.

“This, together with skills and technique we are upskilling the individual while keeping everyone safe. Safety is our top priority.”

Hughes invited the community to sign up with the soccer school and better their game. They can do this by contacting him.
