Join the weekly Bootcamp for runners at Rand Athletic Club in Bordeaux

BORDEAUX – Runners are urged to join the club which focuses on areas commonly ignored by most runners.

Runners can up their game by joining Rand Athletic Club‘s Wednesday Bootcamp for Runners hosted at the Old Parktonians Sports Club in Bordeaux.

The bootcamp was started by members of the club Michelle Mee, Lauren Rolfe and Francis Rogan who desired to give back to their club by helping fellow runners with three areas normally ignored by runners – namely speed, strength and stretching.

Rolfe, who leads the strength aspect of the boot camp said, “The idea was to focus on areas runners tend to skip or ignore, so the concept of run strong, fast and stretch came about.”

His session focuses on endurance training for runners and triathletes. “The strength part is vital to make sure that injuries stay at bay and help push someone even more.”

Rolfe believes five exercises that are important for any runner are squats, triceps dips, lunges, push-ups and plank.

The track (speed) element is run by Mee, comprising of sprints, diagonals, fartleks (Swedish for ‘speed play’ which is fast running intermixed with periods of slow running/jogging) and hill repeats, which are essential to anyone who would like to improve their speed.

The third week comprises of yoga and stretches while the fourth week comprises of a combination of speed and strength, challenging all fitness aspects.

Sessions cost R30 each and begin at 5.30pm. Children are also welcome to join.
