Brothers Matt and Josh Tromp have been unstoppable on the local cricket scene.
The Trinityhouse High School Randpark Ridge U14 cricketers also played for the Celestial Knights, which is based at Randburg Cricket Club, this year, and helped the side win their division in the Lenasia Premier League.
Josh captained the Celestial Knights team while Matt was awarded the batsman of the tournament.
Despite the business associated with cricket, the brothers also played for the school’s tennis first team and achieved 17 distinctions combined on their Grade 8 report cards.
For their school, they each batted 14 innings this year and scored a combined 1 883 runs.
Matt sent bowlers all over the park with his 1 131 runs off 746 balls with an amazing average of 103. His strike rate was 152 and he scored four centuries and four half centuries.
Matt’s best score was 179 runs scored off 142 balls against Hoërskool Randburg. His other centuries (140 and 114) were against Hoërskool Noordheuwel and Fourways High School respectively.
Josh, on the other hand, scored 752 runs off 588 balls with a well-above-par average of 68 and strike rate of 128. He scored two centuries and six half centuries.
Josh’s best score was 125 runs off 116 balls against King Edward VII School. His other century (105 off 75 balls) was against HeronBridge College. All this while Josh also keeps wicket.
