A sequence of wins

LINDEN – Local boxers win International Boxing Organisation and World Boxing Association titles.

Local boxers Sikho ‘Sequence’ Nqothole and Bangile Nyangani both recorded knockout wins in their international and continental title fights in the town they grew up, Mthatha.

The fighters of Alan Toweel Boxing Gym in Linden had trained for weeks leading up their fights and the work they put in yielded fruit that was not just in the form of titles.

Nqothole fought Tanzanian Jemsi Kibazange for the International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Africa junior bantamweight title. In a rare feat in a title fight, Nqothole beat his opponent by technical knockout in just the second round.

“Sikho was superb,” said trainer Alan Toweel. “He dominated from the first round and completely outclassed his opponent. This is his second regional belt. He previously won the World Boxing Association pan-African junior bantamweight title.”

Toweel added that Nqothole would fight at the next Young Gladiators boxing event at Blairgowrie Recreation Centre, which is provisionally set for 15 March.

In Mthatha, Nyangani also outclassed his opponent with a second round knockout. He was fighting a Tanzanian, Selemani Bangaiza, for WBA’s pan-African mini flyweight title.

“He [Nyangani] boxed scientifically and eventually knocked out his opponent with a perfectly timed right hand. He definitely is improving with each fight and will be fighting again in Blairgowrie. It will be a ‘keep busy’ fight before he defends his WBA pan-African title again.”

This was also Nyangani’s second regional title after he won the African Boxing Union (ABU) SADC Mini Flyweight Title, which he still holds.

The boxing gym’s Jeffrey Magagane will fight in Windhoek for the ABU Africa featherweight title on 7 December against Nathanael Kakololo of Namibia.
