Warning: Traffic disruptions expected at Randburg Harriers run

PRAEGVILLE – Motorists are warned of possible traffic disruptions ahead of the Fibo Africa Challenge run.

What better way to celebrate the start of spring than at an annual run hosted by Randburg Harriers.

The running club will host the Fibo Africa Challenge on the morning of 1 September.

This event will be the third leg of the four-part Discovery Vitality Run Series and will comprise 10km and 21.1km routes, as well as a 5km fun run.

The run was previously known as the Adrienne Hersch Challenge, but Harriers has a new headline sponsor in Fibo Africa.

The routes and start times are the same as last year. The 10km route follows the 21.1km route before the routes split and 10km runners return to the venue.

This works the same for the 5km fun run.

The run is almost sold out and organisers expect 7 000 runners on the day.

Motorists should note there are no full road closures except for Silver Pine Avenue, Malanshof, at the start of the race, which will be at 7am.

However, there will be traffic disruptions due to the volume of runners moving through the suburbs around the Randburg Sports Complex. There will be marshals and Metro police officers on route to ensure the safety of runners and assist motorists.

All runners should be finished by 11am.

Race director, Liesl Koch encouraged community members to come out and cheer the runners on.

Harriers have appointed a cleanup crew which will ensure that the entire route is clean upon completion of the race.
