Martial artists compete in Bromhof

BROMHOF – Everybody was taekwondo fighting at the KJD Inter-African mini championship.

Taekwondo martial arts practioners of all ages showed off their impressive skills at the KJD Inter-African Mini Championship at the KJD Martial Arts Academy, Parkside Centre on the 24 November.

Taekwondo clubs from Malawi, Kimberley, Centurion and Randburg competed in the tournament.

Lorraine Lee of the KJD Martial Arts Academy said, “The event was a kyorugi fighting tournament with ages from kiddies to seniors. At the academy, we practise world taekwondo federation Olympic style taekwondo. This form of martial arts is not for the faint-hearted and requires skill, technique and control.”

Referee for the event, Grand Master Eun-Woo Lee is a 9th Dan black belt and a first-class international referee.

Eun-Woo said, “I would like to extend a big well done to all the participants. It was nice to see everyone have such a great time at this tournament. Malawi is also trained under me and it was very nice that they could join us.

“Many students won gold medals and trophies, the effort and skills displayed were most encouraging, we look forward to the next tournament in the new year and we expect the teams from Malawi, Mozambique, Vanderbijlpark, Sasolburg, Kimberley, Centurion and KJD Randburg to join us at the event. This will be a massive event.”
