SA Open comes to town

RANDPARK – Local golf club to host the SA and Joburg Opens for the next three years.

The Randpark Golf Club will host one of the country’s biggest golfing tournaments this December.

Joint sponsors, The City of Johannesburg, The Sunshine Tour, The European Tour, and The Asian Tour recently announced that the club will host the prestigious 108th SA Open Sponsored by City of Joburg from 6 to 9 December.

Randpark will also host the event for two years afterwards, as The Joburg Open and SA Open have merged.

The SA Open, also called the South African Open Championship, was established in 1903.

It is one of the oldest national championships in the world, and one of the principal tournaments on the Sunshine Tour.

“Randpark Club is honoured to host the 108th SA Open Championship,” said the club’s general manager, Francois Swart.

“Randpark has consistently embodied fair play and sportsmanship amongst other principles employed by the Sunshine Tour and the Joburg Open 2018. We are confident in our ability to host an outstanding event.”

He said the two courses, Bushwillow and Firethorn, rate amongst the best in South Africa and allows competitors the opportunity to play a variety of golf before making the cut.

The championship golf courses are very different from each other.

Bushwillow is the older of the two, with beautiful, well-established trees, a tight layout, and small greens. Firethorn is modern with a long layout.

Both challenge the players and offers golfers of varying abilities an unforgettable experience.

“Hosting this most prestigious tournament – The SA and Joburg Open, at Randpark Club, is a privilege. There will be 240 players competing this year. My team and I look forward to welcoming our local and international players and guests,” Swart concluded.
