Randburg Bowls Club invites the community to try out the sport
BOSKRUIN – Bowls is a sport you can play for your whole life.
Randburg Bowls Club has invited the community to play a ‘sport that is for life’.
The new bowling season kicks off on 27 October and the club is gearing up to host league matches, internal competitions, practices, training and social events.
Club president, Alan Durrett said anyone was welcome to attend ‘tabs’ games every Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
A fee of R25 for non-members gets you a game and a light meal.
Whether you move on to competitive bowls afterwards or just play socially, that is fine.
But Durrett is confident you will get hooked on the great sport.
“Bowls is a sport you can play for your whole life,” he said. “It is easy to learn, social and family-oriented. There are no age restrictions and you don’t have to be athletic. It is more a mental and accuracy game.”
The club has wheelchair access and can cater for blind or disabled bowlers.

The club’s men’s teams won their Johannesburg Bowls Association C and D leagues so they have been promoted to the B and C leagues respectively.
The women’s team is also known for its success in recent years.
Durrett said the venue was great for hosting birthdays and corporate days, with a functioning bar.
The club will host a Christmas tournament in December, and follow it with ‘twilight trips’ in the new year.
Anyone who would like to find out more about the club can contact Peter Woodman, a committee member.
