Adrienne Hersch Challenge with Discovery Vitality sees record numbers at Randburg Harriers
PRAEGVILLE – Runners hit the streets in their thousands for annual Randburg Harriers race
This year’s Adrienne Hersch Challenge with Discovery Vitality saw a record number of runners hit the streets of Randburg.
The 35th annual run played out under blue skies and warm sunshine on 1 September, kicking off spring with fun but hilly 5km, 10km and 21,1km runs.
The third event in the Vitality Run Series attracted 7 000 entries and a record 6 000 runners on the day.

Last year there were 6 500 entries but less than 6 000 people turned up.
The host club, Randburg Harriers, is known for its runs with long uphills and every year the inclines are the talking points among runners.
Warm weather on the day did not help those trying to beat their personal bests, and no time records were broken by race winners.
Nevertheless, the runs went smoothly and saw many people put fitness first as winter draws to an end.
“The event was a big success, even more so than last year,” said race director, Liesl Koch. “Everything went well and we had amazing feedback from the sponsors on how well it was organised.”
She said many new and almost-fit runners completed the 5km run.
“Vitality always encourages people to take part in Parkrun and be active and it is nice to see people turn up for their first 5km run, as it can change lives.”
She described Randburg Harriers as a running club that families can join and work on their fitness together.
The next big Harriers race is the iconic Valentine’s Night Race in February next year.
