WARNING: Traffic advisory for Adrienne Hersch Challenge this Saturday

PRAEGVILLE – The runs start at 7am on Saturday, but the race director suggests runners start arriving from 5am.

Randburg Harriers expects a record 7 000 runners at its 35th annual Adrienne Hersch Randburg Harriers Challenge on 1 September.

Only Silver Pine Avenue will be completely closed to motorists between Republic Road and Magnesite Crescent, between 5.30am and 7.30am.

But moderate delays can be expected on Malibongwe and Bram Fischer drives, and minor delays can be expected in the streets around the Randburg Sports Complex.

Race director, Liesl Koch said apart from Silver Pine Avenue, marshalls and Metro police officers will be stationed on the road at certain intersections to ensure the safety of runners, and allow cars through when they can.

Koch said runners could park at the complex if they entered at the Hans Schoeman Street entrance.

There will be additional parking at Fontainebleau Park outside City Rock Johannesburg, at the Brightwater Commons, on Elise Road, at Damelin College and on Malibongwe Drive near the complex.

She recommended runners also used Uber and Taxify to get to the venue.

The 10km and 21,1km runs start at 7am and the 5km run/walk starts at 7.15am, but Koch recommended runners aim to arrive any time from 5am to avoid congestion and traffic delays that might lead to a late start.

The 7 000 entries are already sold out for the run.

The previous record at the event (6 500 runners) was seen last year.
