VIDEO: A third round knockout for The Panther

BLAIRGOWRIE – Randburg's very own boxing champion holds on to his title after his knockout win on 20 July.

A third-round knockout now logs 11 wins and three successful title defences for Randburg’s rising boxing star, Patrick ‘The Panther’ Mukala.

Mukala has successfully defended his World Boxing Association Pan African Super Middleweight title for the third time.

His fight against Tanzania’s Ibrahim Noakola at Carnival City’s Big Top Arena on 20 July lasted only three rounds but the crowd was completely fired up, screaming Mukala’s name.

The 24-year-old from the Democratic Republic of Congo had the fight under control from the first bell.

His jabs were delivered at lightning speed which have been perfected under the watchful eye of Randburg Boxing Club owner and Mukala’s coach of four years Ashley Fourie.

On the night of the fight, commentator Barry Lambert said Mukala would go far and that he had a lot of talent.

Co-commentator Paul Dempsey said he believed that Mukala was easily in the top 20 in the world.

Fourie said he foresaw that Mukala would be a world champion when he met him four years ago.

“It’s coming,” he said. “He improves with every fight.”

The Panther’s third defence has earned him the right to fight internationally and a fight has been set for September.
