VIDEOS: MTN Walk the Talk with 702 sees another great turnout at Marks Park

EMMARENTIA – Walkers have fun for a good cause at MTN Walk the Talk with 702.

The streets were filled when 50 000 people and some furry friends refused to just sit at home on 22 July.

Various charities benefited when crowds walked the talk for good causes at the 17th annual MTN Walk the Talk with 702.

The suburbs around Marks Park Sports Club, Emmarentia, came to a standstill as roads were closed and walkers made the streets their own.

The 15km, 8km and 5km events were held two hours apart so every walker could raise awareness of their charity of choice, and it would not get too crowded.

But the crowds were massive, though the numbers were not what made the event successful according to Radio 702 station manager, Thabisile Mbete.

“It’s the quality of people that is the highlight for me each year,” she said.

“The community opens their doors and allows us to use their space to make a difference. There are so many people from different backgrounds here but we are all the same in our intentions [to raise awareness for chairities].”

She said the event always holds walks for everyone.

“We have the 15km for serious walkers, the 8km for families and the 5km for people as lazy as I am,” she joked.

Food stalls and live music including a special performance by South African Music Award-winning Shekhinah, gave walkers a reason to hang around afterwards with like-minded people.

As the day drew to a close, everyone could count themselves lucky to have so much fun while doing something for a good cause.
