Randburg Squash Club is one of the biggest and busiest squash clubs in SA

BLAIRGOWRIE – The Randburg Squash club is the place to go if you want to make new friends.

Where better to learn the game of squash, than at Gauteng’s most popular squash club.

The Randburg Squash Club in Blairgowrie can boast a membership of almost 600 players, never mind the non-members who still book the courts for the odd game.

Club co-owner, Harry Goslett said the club was busy week in and week out.

The Randburg Squash Club is always busy with league, tournament and social matches.

Apart from the annual club championships and the periodic tournament, Randburg Squash Club competes in Gauteng Squash’s 1st, reserve, 2nd, 4th and 6th team men’s leagues, their 2nd, 3rd and 4th team women’s leagues, as well as the doubles league and Gauteng Masters league.

The club also hosts its own social leagues and business leagues throughout the week, and action squash is played twice per month.

Yet there is always room for more.

“I would encourage anyone interested in squash to come one night and watch,” said Goslett. “You can enjoy our fully-kitted sports bar with four TVs and learn more about the game.”

He added that squash was a fun sport that improved fitness like few other sports could.

It is a very social game, with players often exchanging contact details to arrange more matches with each other, apart from league and tournament games.

Sheldon Erasmus really loves squash.

Sheldon Erasmus, who has been playing for 14 years, said when he moved to Joburg he knew no one.

“When I started playing at Randburg, I made about 70 friends in no time,” he said.

Garren Kent, a playing partner of Erasmus, said the best thing about squash was sending one’s opponent the wrong way, called a ‘taxi’.

They agreed that squash was a lot of fun, but could be physically demanding, especially when one wished to play at a high level.

Kris Khumalo is always on hand at the fully-kitted sports bar.
