#RandburgLindenDerby: Linden rugby captain ready for FNB Classic Clash

The Randburg Sun caught up with Hoërskool Linden’s first-team rugby captain James Harris ahead of the school’s FNB Classic Clash rugby match against Hoërskool Randburg on 12 May.

“It is a huge honour and privilege to captain such a talented side,” Harris said.

When asked about what his philosophy was captaining the team, he said, “I care about the well-being of my players, and I believe you need to lead your team by being an example to them.”

After a slow start to the 2018 season, Harris feels that his team is more than ready for the clash.

“We are starting to peak as a team with amazing rugby being played. We have an experienced team with most of the players being in Grade 12. Unfortunately, our first-choice winger is injured but our replacement is very experienced and more than capable to do the job.”

He also commented on the intense rivalry between the two schools.

“For the last four years, Linden has won the derby, and as a team, we will strive to make it five consecutive years. It is going to be a quick paced game where the focus will be to play the ball out wide.”

As a motivating message to his team, Harris said, “I want to remind my team of what a big honour it is to play in the white jersey and what it represents. This is our time to rise and leave a legacy.”

The FNB Classic Clash will start at 8am with a variety of family activities on offer at Hoërskool Randburg, with the match kicking-off in the afternoon.

Tickets will be R10 at the gate.
