Mustangs trample Cobras

PRAEGVILLE – Marks Park U15 Mustangs win against the U15 Cobras at the recent Junior League Baseball Game held at Randburg Mets Sports Complex.

At the recent Junior League Baseball Game held at the Randburg Mets Sports Club, the U15 Mustangs were victorious as they played against the U15 Cobras.

Allan McCabe, coach for the Marks Parks U15 Mustangs, said there are 10 teams in the league and each team plays against one another and thereafter are separated in top and bottom halves.

“The league games will end with strength versus strength matches,” he said.

McCabe explained that this was the Mustangs’ third game and said the advantage of playing against the Cobras was that they were younger and small in stature.

“Also the pitch is quite big which might make it a bit difficult for the Cobras as they might not be used to a pitch this scale,” said McCabe.

However, in sport, McCabe said you never want to embarrass other players through your strength.

“So, although we won by a large margin, in baseball what we try to do is not score too many runs and give the other team a chance to actually play the game,” he said.

Pitcher for the U15 Cobras aims his best shot at the U15 Mustangs at the Junior League Baseball Game held at Randburg Mets Sports Complex.

Ali Basson the coach for the U15 Cobras, whose team is based in Florida, said this was the first game of the season for them and the strategy was to get the players to understand the game and enjoy themselves.

“The players did show some struggle as it was a newly put together team, their biggest challenge is that they are younger than their competition,” said Basson. The Cobras do not have a U12 team.

“But the boys did aim to give the other team a run for their money,” said Basson.

He explained that what makes a good sportsperson is first that they enjoy themselves and also to be part of team dynamics.

“It is not always about winning and that is what we try and teach the players.”

Both coaches hoped their players would leave the match with a deeper understanding of the sport and head into every game having improved from the previous.
