Andrews said sports at the school were part of a healthy school’s initiative in conjunction with the City of Joburg. She added that they were very conscious of children’s ability to learn when they are well nourished and fit.

“We serve them healthy cooked meals every day, and they have a sports period twice a week, one being swimming in summer.” The children also learn valuable lessons about taking turns, being gracious in defeat and winning, and also building team spirit and camaraderie with their peers.

“The parents that attended were able to take part in the various activities, which showed the children that their families enjoy spending time with them.”

Andrews said one of the highlights of the day for the children was the handing out of medals, trophies and prizes.

“There was a wonderful team and family spirit and we hope to do this for many more years to come.”
