Bromhof swimmers take home 37 medals

BROMHOF – Quest Swim Club members earn medals aplenty at recent galas.

It has been mission successful lately for Quest Swim Club, with victories and medals to prove it.

The Bromhof-based swim school has barely stopped to breathe after taking 37 medals at the Southern African Christian Schools Sports Association gala in March.

The Davis-Hannibal brothers, Dagyn, Keatyn and Aaron along with Caelyn White have been very successful in the pool lately.

In the latest galas, Aaryn Davis-Hannibal (14) took five first-place finishes – one in each stroke and the individual medley, at the Wahoo Aquatics gala in September, while Caelyn White (10) won silver in 50m butterfly at the annual Hillcrest Sprints Gala, also in September.

Aaryn Davis-Hannibal and his brother, Keatyn train at Quest Swim Club.

Despite how tough butterfly is, technically, White described it as her favourite stroke. Although she is young, she is quickly mastering the technique.

“I have been swimming since I was seven, and my favourite swimmer is Natalie Coughlin because she is good and swims five hours per day,” she said, admitting that she does not train as much as that.

Dagyn Davis-Hannibal will swim at nationals in December.

Continuing the family’s success in swimming, Aaryn’s brother Keaton (12) took a third and second at the Wahoo gala and brother Dagyn (20) is preparing to swim breaststroke and butterfly at nationals in December.

“I just love the competitiveness of swimming. It also keeps me alert, helps my health and fitness and gives me confidence,” said Dagyn.

If that was not enough, the boys’ father is their coach at Quest Swim Club. Needless to say, he is immensely proud of their achievements.

“The secret to our success has been that we have trained smart, rather than just spend as much time as possible in the pool,” he said.

“The swimmers, who have shown dedication, are the ones standing out now. They never miss training when they can help it.”
