LIONS COUNTDOWN: 3 days to go
JOBURG – Nelson Mandela once said that sport has the power to unite people in a way that little else does.

So just because the tickets for the Super Rugby final are sold out, it does not mean you have to cheer the Lions on alone.
Come 4pm on 5 August, the Lions will host the Crusaders at Emirates Airline Park in front of a full stadium. Most of us will not be there, but we can support South Africa’s best rugby team from a distance.
We can show our support while screaming at the top our lungs at the TV, boerie and beer in hand, or more quietly analyse every set piece and movement of the game in dignity and respect over a cup of tea. But probably not the latter.
Sport gives us an opportunity to get emotional, and whether we feel ecstatic delight or are in tearful distress, sport is always more enjoyable in the company of your best mates.
Together we can share the highs and lows of the game together, console each other, and high-five when we score.
Invite your friends and family round to watch the game on TV, or visit a pub or restaurant and enjoy the vibe of watching it with strangers.
Perhaps it is time to call up an old friend you have not seen in a while or be patient with someone who does not know what a ruck or maul is, and help them understand the game better.
Whatever you decide to do, have fun, be safe, do not drink and drive, blow a vuvuzela, buy a rugby shirt, buy a rugby shirt for your friend, and cheer your team on.
