A jump above the rest

HONEYDEW – Showjumpers of all ages converge at Honeydew Equestrian Centre.

Horse riders between the age of two and mid-40s tested their showjumping skills at Honeydew Equestrian Centre’s Training Jumping Show.

About 100 riders participated in the event to gauge their expertise. On the day, skills really did vary from basic to expert and jumps ranged from barely above the ground to 80cm.

Bacon and egg rolls, curry and rice, donuts and other treats were enjoyed by families as they picnicked around the centre’s new arena.

The centre’s stable manager and instructor, Martinique van der Westhuizen explained that the show was separated into 10 classes. Rosettes and prizes were awarded after each class.

“It was a hugely successful show. Entries made up of riders from Honeydew Equestrian Centre and neighbouring yards,” Van der Westhuizen said.

She added that the difference between the ages of riders proved that horse riding was truly a sport for all ages.
