LYME PARK – St Stithians Boys’ College cricketers have won two friendly matches played against a visiting team from England.
Communication coordinator for the college, Lethabo-Thabo Royds said the college’s U13 boys played a 35-over game against Cornwall Cricket Club with Saints winning by 72 runs. The next day they played a 50-over game, which Saints won by three wickets.
Royds explained that Saints and Cornwall have had a cricketing relationship since 1994.
“St Stithians Boys Preparatory have a special relationship with Cornwall, as each year boys from the Cornwall Cricket Club and Saints have the opportunity to travel to each other’s country and play the wonderful game of cricket. The U13 cricket team first visited Cornwall in 1994, and in 1995 the Cornwall Cricket Club’s U13 players returned the visit and from then onwards the relationship blossomed over the years,” she explained.
Director of sports at the college, Russel Lennox said the boys loved hosting Cornwall Cricket Club and the game of cricket did more than just teach the boys about teamwork, patience, hard work, but also gave them the chance to connect with people from a completely different continent.
