Road closures for street-mile and nappy dash races

MALANSHOF – Randburg Harriers to host three runs on 4 September. Motorists are advised that several roads will be closed.

Runners had better hurry up and book their spots for three exciting races, and a nappy dash, held by the Randburg Harriers on 4 September.

The running club in Malanshof decided to host the races as compensation for the cancelled City2City Ultra Marathon 2016, which would have taken place on the day. However, motorists are advised of the following road closures:

The runs:

The street-mile is exactly one mile long and costs R40, except for masters, walkers and families, who pay R30. Prize money for the winners ranges from a hamper for the first three U15 runners to R3 000 for the Open and U19 winners. The start times are between 8am and 10.15am, according to running categories. See the Randburg Harriers website for exact times.

The 10km race costs R60, and temporary licences cost R20. Grandmasters run for R40, and great grandmasters run for free, but an ID is required for both. Blind runners also run for free. The prize money ranges from R230 to R1 000. This run starts at 8am.

The 5km fun run costs R40, and starts at 8.15am.

The nappy dash is for children up to four years old. Entry is free, and the distance is about 50m. It will take place at 10.30am, once the other events have been completed.

Medals will be given to all 5km and 10km finishers.

“We’re very excited about this event,” said the club’s public relations officer, John Neal. “We’ve stepped in at short notice and pulled out all the stops to arrange an event we think will become a popular and permanent fixture on the race calendar. We believe that there’s a gap in the road running market for this type of event, and we have plans to grow and expand it in future years.

Registration can be completed at www.championship.co.za, or at the Harriers clubhouse between 12pm and 5pm on 2 September, or between 1pm and 5pm on 3 September, or from 5am on the day. Online entries close on 31 August.
