Local footballer jets off to Spain and USA

BOSKRUIN – Tyrique Mohidin has been asked to train with Atlanta United FC

The USA can look forward to the football talent of Tyrique Mohidin (16), talent Spain has already had a taste of.

The young Boskruin star has developed his skills immensely in the last few years, thanks in large to his time spent overseas, and the help of sports conditioner, Rafique Hassim. “I have trained Mohidin since he was eight years old, and he has perfected his skills. He is a good passer of the ball and has great vision,” said Hassim, who used to play for Atlanta United FC  in the USA, and still plays in the South African futsal team.

Mohidin explained that he has always loved football. “What I like most is the passing aspect, it is beautiful to see how the ball moves,” the central midfielder said. However, when Mohidin was eight years old he could only make the D team at the Crusaders Football Club, and his father, Zunaid, called Hassim for help.

Hassim saw potential in Mohidin and started to train him more and more frequently until they met almost every day. “I specifically work on strength, endurance, fitness, speed, power and technique,” Hassim said.

Mohidin’s skill increased and he started to play at other clubs to gain more experience. He played for Panorama Football Club, and then for the Bidvest Wits Football Club junior team, where they won their league twice, before spending a season in Spain, with the Kaptiva Sports Academy.

“The academy distributed us among local teams and I got to play for the academy as well as local teams.” Mohidin was especially excited to play against top clubs like Villarreal  and Valencia in friendlies as well as league matches. “The level of football in Spain is fantastic, it helped me gain a lot of experience.”

Mohidin has been asked to train with Atlanta United FC, Hassim’s old club, and the United Futbol Academy in the USA. He has been promised by these organisations that one of them will take him on board for some time. “I want to play at the highest level in the USA or anywhere in Europe,” he said. However, Mohidin’s greatest desire is to “spread the word of God” through playing football.
