Join Ann Harding Cheshire Home’s soccer tournament

NORTHWOLD –It’s that time of the year again to support Ann Harding Cheshire Home.

The Ann Harding Five-a-side Soccer Tournament Fundraiser on 2 May looks to raise more money for the home than before.

The tournament raises money in support of the residents at Ann Harding Cheshire Home in Northwold.

The home serves as a place where staff made it their mission to assist people with disabilities. They provide the conditions necessary for the residents’ dignity, physical, mental and spiritual well-being regardless of their colour, race or creed,

The world class care and facilities provided here, cost each individual an average of R120 000 annually. This means that there is a struggle for many of the residents to afford the cost, such as one amazing man called Tom Sundawo.

Sundawo, the brainchild of this project, is a full-time resident at the home and is wheelchair bound with minimal functionality of his body. In 2007 when Sundawo was a restaurant manager at the Dros, he was shot in the head during an armed robbery at the restaurant. The bullet damaged the motor neuron part of his brain.

As a way to generate income Sundawo’s friends started the soccer tournament to raise much-needed funds in a fun and healthy way. The one-day tournament has been played at Old Parktonian Sports Club since 2013 and has played an enormous role in collecting money to aid all 38 residents in their recovery process.

The tournament promises to have excellent entertainment including a DJ, snacks and refreshments. Each team consists of eight players at R120 per player. The teams will play a round-robin to determine the victorious winner.
